VW Camper Shell Blasting | WizeServices.co.uk

Have you heard about our new range of VW Camper restoration and conversion services yet? If not, then read on to find out how we can lend a hand when it comes to your classic Volkswagen camper van restoration.

Established in 2008 and famous for our Luxury Campervan sales, the Morecambe and Wize team have seen more projects though our doors then we dare to count. While we are able to provide a bespoke build process with ‘bolt on’ options, some people just can’t let go of getting their hands dirty and want to get stuck into their own camper restoration. Being enthusiast as well as professionals, we get that.

But classic vehicle restoration is not all plain sailing, and sometimes you are presented with a challenge that requires either a bit more space and the tools to do the job properly or the expert skill and knowledge.  With heavy plant and machinery investment at the start of 2016 we are now able to open up our doors to the general public to enable them to have one or a series of camper restoration stages competed by us here in house.

Today we are going to take things back to basics and look at Shell Blasting.

We’ve all heard the term ‘Bare Metal Restoration‘ but why do it? What does it actually mean? And more importantly what’s it going to cost?

With the quality of imported shells deteriorating and the cost of buses and the work carried out both rising, never has hit been more important to get to the bottom of things and start as you mean to go on, “Do it once, do it right” as the saying goes. Our Media Blasting booth was built to do just this; to get to the bones of an imported vehicle to see exactly what we are dealing with and safely asses the structure of the shell. From this we can draw up a ‘to do’ list of necessary preparatory body work that needs completing before we start to think about going into paint.

Knowledge comes with experience, and we’ve worked with suppliers to develop our own formulation of media which gets us to where we want to be without damage to the existing shell. After all, we don’t want to be causing ourselves and further problems down the line due to warping or heat damage so early in the restoration.

We use a rotisserie which allows us to rate the vehicle a full 360 degrees to ensure we get to the whole shell, while our highly skilled team carefully peal back the layers of time. Not for the faint hearted, this process requires patience, practice and proper personal protection equipment, but what you are left with is the foundation for dream project to be built upon.

Prices vary depending on vehicle but as a guide VW Bay Window Shell Blasting and VW Split Screen Shell Blasting is priced at £1100* with nationwide collection and delivery available.

Have your own restoration business and need to outsource? No problem. We here to help, no exclusions.
